BOCE had made several prototypes using FDM (extrusion) 3-D printing but due to the nature of 3D printing the prototypes didn’t hold up to testing. After discussing options we were awarded the job to machine a prototype out of ABS plastic, the same material they plan on using for injection molding. The machined prototype is a better representation of how injection molded parts look and perform than the 3-D printed prototypes they had been using before.
